Dirty air fans are designed to deal with materials passing through them. The blades of these fans are generally Radial due to their ability to prevent accumulation of materials on the blades themselves.

Accumulation of material on the blades can cause an imbalance, leading to damage and reduced service life of the fan.  High efficiency dirty air fans include the radial tip range used for aspiration and most scrubber applications.
